Using medicines on line to view patient info sheets

It would seem like reinventing the wheel to have the MHRA reproduce patient information sheets online when medicines.org  already do this and can provide them in different print formats and brialle.

You can see this service at the following link; http://www.medicines.org.uk/home.aspx

Perhapse it wouod be better for the MHRA to signpost to this resorce

Why the contribution is important

To save wasting resources

medicines.org is not comprehensive or up-to-date. MHRA influence to address these important database qualities would help.

I agree with sanghani - whichever database is used it needs to be up-to-date. As medicines.org seems to be so far ahead already it seems a shame to copy the work already done but whether the MHRA will be able to influence a private company in this way is another matter. Whichever is used, it needs to be easy to use.

The electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC) emc.medicines.org.uk, established in 1997 to provide online access to regulated information for medicines approved by the MHRA is readily accessible, requires no user registration or cost to use and currently contains 3755 SPCs and 3209 PILs. In addition, the eMC offers PILs in formats suitable for the visually impaired, developed in collaboration with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). Formats include large font, audio and Braille, and the web site is designed to support screen readers.

The eMC is published by Datapharm, a not-for-profit organisation established by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) in 1977. Since its inception, Datapharm has published regulated information for UK medicines in printed form as the Medicines Compendium. This compendium is supplied free of charge to all NHS health professionals and community pharmacists.

Datapharm has collaborated effectively with the MHRA to ensure that the information contained in the eMC is the most accurate and contemporary information about UK regulated medicines available. At Datapharm our objective is to expand the breadth of information on medicines available in the UK and to continue to partner with the MHRA and other stakeholders to achieve this. Datapharm fully supports the MHRA in its aims to make information about medicines readily available to the diverse audiences that will benefit from such information.
