SPCs should include information on latex content

I realise this is slightly outside what this consultation is about, but SPCs should also include information on whether a product contains latex, is latex free or may have come into contact with latex during manufacture. Ideally this would be for all products, but should certainly be for all injectables as a minimum.

Why the contribution is important

Increasing numbers of patients have latex allergies. Usually, the only way to find out if a particular medicine contains latex is to ring up the manufacturer. This wastes a lot of NHS staff time, can delay patient treatment and is impossible out of hours.

Making this information readily available in SPCs would therefore improve patient safety, improve the quality of patient care by helping them receive it in a more timely fashion and release NHS staff time for other activities.

I agree-this causes unnecessary checking of data and phoning companies to find out if dental local anaesthetics are NRL-free
