A separate website for PILs would be a waste of resources.

The British National Formulary already exists. See http://bnf.org/bnf/extra/current/450053.htm The information held is aimed at GPs. However I would suggest it would be a simple task to amend the BNF to include links to PILs. eg. http://emc.medicines.org.uk/medicine/20882/PIL/ReQuipXLprolonged-releasetablets/ If a special public's view of the BNF information is required, all that is needed is a few extra web pages. Not a whole web site.

Why the contribution is important

It will prevent needless expenditure and allow all information about medicines to be in one place.

this would mean information in the same place, avoids unnecesary duplication reducing costs as adding to established website rather than starting and maintaining another one

It would enable us to provide patients with one point of contact for all medicines information as often the paper copy is lost or misplaced. The additional cost would be minimal and significantly beneficial from the patients point of view.

I agree that the BNF is the doctors' bible, but as I understand it before it reaches the BNF a medication has to be regulated by the MHRA.
If so then it is very important that all safe medications including those currently prescribed routinely in the USA and Europe but not in the UK are given the green light by the MHRA in order that doctors may prescribe them here too and thus give patients what they really require.
